Sittwe
- The Arakan
About
1-hour flight to Sittwe, once known as Akyab. Sittwe is the most
important town in Rakhine, Myanmar's "wild west" on
the Bengal gulf. Rakhine (formerly Arakan) is cut off from the
rest of the country by a huge jungle-mountain range of the
Arakan. This mountain range begins in the Himalayas, dives under
the sea at Myanmar's coast and ends on the Indonesian island of
Sumatra. Sittwe is a small town . We will show you the places of
interest during the afternoon - first impressions of a very
unspoilt part of the country! A new, small hotel at the coast,
finished in 1996, removes your fear and offers you
accommodation.
